Abstract
Inequality of income distribution is a common problem that often occurs in various regions. This study aims to analyze the direct or indirect effect between the variables of poverty and HDI on income inequality through economic growth as a mediating variable in the Province of the Special Region of Yogyakarta. The data used in this study is secondary data for 2007 – 2021, sourced from Bappeda and BPS DI Yogyakarta Province. The method used in this study is a quantitative method with an analytical tool, namely path analysis. Based on the results of the analysis, it is known that poverty has a positive but not significant effect on economic growth, while the Human Development Index has a positive and significant effect on economic growth. Poverty has a negative and significant effect on income inequality, while the Human Development Index has a positive but not significant effect on income inequality. Economic growth has a positive and significant effect on income inequality, and economic growth is a mediating variable in the indirect effect between poverty and HDI on income inequality.
