Abstract

Film is a medium that still exist among the public. Film as a media is also one of the tools for depicting or a reflection of the social reality that is present today. Indonesian film for the past few years have carried various of family concepts, ranging from family harmony, to carrying concepts such as a picture of conflict that occurs in dysfunctional families. The theme of family conflict was brought up and worked on into a film entitled The unchangeables by Herwin Novianto as one of the directors who won the award for best director in 2012 at the FFI event. The story contains how they are manage and faces so many conflict that engulfs their family life. This study uses a qualitative approach with a textual analysis method , namely semiotics analysis of Charles Sanders Peirce. Peirce describes the three elements of the triadic model in the form sign, object, interpretant and which it has devices in the form of icons, index, and symbol. The scenes that become the object of this research are scenes of family conflict that occur between mother and children, and also conflict between siblings. The results of this study were found in eleven scenes with cutouts containing sign of embodiment of a family conflict experienced by the actors of the film through facial expressions, dialogue between characters, and also the actor’s body gestures. In addition, the conflict that occurs in this film is divided into two types, namely solvable conflict with total four scenes, while perpetual conflict with total seven scenes with aech conflict resolution in the form of compromise, submission, standoff, and withdrawal.
