Abstract

In today's era, beauty is something that most people talk about, especially women whose physicality is often attached by the concept of beauty. The beauty trend that has been popular in recent times is the Korean beauty, which now seems to have become the reference for everyone, including Indonesian women. Which currently seems to have become a reference for everyone, including Indonesian women. This beauty phenomenon is often made into a Korean drama that has become a daily consumption for the global community. One of the Korean dramas that discusses the concept of beauty is True Beauty. Therefore, the researcher is interested in analyzing how the representation of beauty is shown in the Korean drama True Beauty. This study uses a qualitative method with semiotic analysis from John Fiske which divides social codes into levels of reality, representation and ideology. The corpus of this research are 7 scenes in True Beauty episode 1 which visualize the concept of beauty.. The results of this study are South Korean beauty standards that are described in this drama are still unchanged, these are a slim body forming an S line, feminine style, smooth white face free of acne, glowing, round eyes, brown eyebrows that are not too thick, a spiky nose and reddish orange lips that make a fresher and sweeter impression. It's just that in the current era, the beauty industry has been dominated by make up. This drama also shows that everyone deserves the opportunity to be beautiful as she wishes even with makeup. Everyone has the right to be treated humanely, whether in appearance according to beauty standards or not. Keyword: Representation, Beauty, Korean Drama
