Abstract

Chitosan is one of the products of the invention that can be said still new. In addition, Chitosan has many very important benefits in daily life without causing negative effects because of Chitosan derived from natural ingredients, namely shrimp shells. Chitosan can be used as: cosmetic ingredients, pharmaceutical ingredients, preservatives, and much more. here basic considerations for making a 'Chitosan Plant Project Design from Waste' Shrimp Skin'. The process of making Chitosan from Shrimp Shell Waste is carried out by chemical process because it is more economical than the enzymatic process. Besides the supporting raw materials for the process are easy to obtain at a relatively low price inexpensive At the beginning before the process of making Chitosan, the size of dry shrimp shells reduced and uniformed. Then to the first stage of the process, namely the process Deproteination where the protein content will be separated from the dried shrimp shell with 3.5% NaOH solution for 4 hours at a temperature of 700C. The next process namely the demineralization stage where the cake from the previous process is isolated from chitin of its mineral content with 1N HCl solution for 1 hour at a temperature of 700C. The next stage is the deacetylation stage where the cake from the process The demineralization was reacted with 40% NaOH solution for 1 hour at temperature 1000C. The cake resulting from this last stage is then dried by means of using a rotary dryer with the intake air temperature at 120 0C. Chitosan factory from shrimp shell waste is planned to operate 24 hours a day, 330 working days in a year and a production capacity of 1262,6263 kg/hour. This factory is planned to be established in Sidoarjo and operates for 330 days/year with the following data: a. Production capacity: 10000 tons/year b. Materials used: Shrimp shell, NaOH, HCl c.
