Abstract

Acetanilide plant planning from Aniline and Acetic Anhydride is planned for a production capacity of 25,000 tons/year. Acetanilide is a basic chemical that is very important in paint factories, rubber factories and pharmaceutical factories. This factory is planned to be established in the Manyar area, Gresik Regency, East Java, precisely in the Java Integrated Industrial and Ports Estate (JIIPE) Industrial Estate. This plant will operate for 330 days a year. The process of making Acetanilide in a nutshell starts with mixing the raw materials of aniline and benzene in the mixer after which the mixture is fed to the reactor to react with acetic anhydride. The reactor used is a Stirred Tank Reactor with an operating temperature of 120oC and a pressure of 1 atm equipped with a heating jacket. After from the reactor the mixture is fed to a centrifuge to take the Acetanilide filtrate. Then it is fed to the crystallizer for the crystallization process by cooling it using cooling water. After finding the formed crystals, it will be directed to centrifuge-2 to separate the mother liquor and Acetanilide crystal powder. Then the separated mother liquor will be recycled to the reactor, while for the crystals it will go to the rotary dryer to remove the water in the acetanilide. After that, the acetanilide is fed to the ball mill to uniform the size of the acetanilide mesh
