Abstract

Batik is a wealth of cultural arts owned by Indonesia, which has been recognized by the international world to be an icon of Indonesian heritages. With this icon, indirectly, in Indonesia, many batik companies produce batik fabric with various good motifs and patterns. With a lot of batik fabric products made from batik companies, more waste is also generated from the manufacturing process. The batik industry can produce liquid waste that is very dangerous for the environment due to the use of chemicals such as dyes and naphthol in the process so as to produce concentrated colors, Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), Total Suspended Solid (TSS), and high Total Disolved Solid (TDS). The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of the best type of coagulant and flocculation stirring time on the reduction in COD, TDS, TSS and batik waste color. The conditions carried out were flocculation stirring time (5, 10, 15, 20, 25 minutes) and the type of coagulant (FeSO4, FeCl3 and tamarind seeds). The results showed that the best time for COD and TSS reduction was 5 minutes, 10 minutes TDS reduction and 25 minutes color reduction with the best type of coagulant was FeCl3.
