Abstract

Prentul cayenne pepper is a local chili that is widely cultivated by farmers, chili continuity needs to be maintained by increasing productivity. This can be overcome by improving local varieties through plant breeding activities. This study aims to determine the dose of gamma ray irradiation 60Co which can cause lethal dose 20 (LD20) and lethal dose 50 (LD50) and the effect of gamma ray 60Co on the level of genetic diversity in cayenne pepper varieties Prentul Kediri. The research was carried out in the farmer's land of Ketindan village, Lawang Malang. The implementation time of the study starts in February 2021 until April 2021. Consists of 11 dose levels ranging from 0 (control), 100, 200, 300, 400, 500, 600, 700, 800, 900, and 1000 Gy, consisting of 11 experimental plots using the single plant method with t-test analysis at 5% and 1% levels. The results showed that the dose of 60Co gamma ray irradiation that could cause a Lethal Dose 20 (LD20) of 143,229 Gray and a Lethal Dose of 50 (LD50) of 572,917 Gray. Gamma ray irradiation of 60Co affects the growth and yield of cayenne pepper varieties Prentul Kediri in almost all parameters. Keywords: Cayenne pepper, 60Co gamma ray radiation, local varieties
