Abstract

Silica is a chemical compound with molecule formula SiO2 (Silicon dioxide) that can be obtained from mined silica, organic matter and crystal synthetic. One of the advantages of silica is as silica xerogel. Xerogel forming involve acidifiaction process either with organic acid or anorganic ac id. Organic acids have different carbon chain one and another. The porpose of this research is to studying the effect of variety organic acids towards morphology of silica xerogel. Acidification is a method that used in this research to produce silica xerogel with extraction process for 1 hour and the temperature is 100 o C. The smallest particle size is 0,422 µm by using tartaric acid and pH controlled at 5. On the other hand, the biggest particle size is 4,99 µm by using oxalic acid and pH controlled at 6.
