Abstract

The sophistication of a tool created by modernization has made the agricultural sector more advanced, the manufacture of drain cells which are used as planting media is a new breakthrough in making planting on minimal urban land. In addition to using drain cell media, the lack of land in urban areas can be overcome with a roof garden system. Roof garden is a technique of planting on the roof of an unused building that can be used and utilized as a place to grow crops. The combination of drain cell media with the roof garden technique is considered very effective. In addition, due to the large need for urban communities for vegetables , especially mustard greens, made the mustard plant chosen in conducting this research. The purpose of this study was to determine the level of effectiveness of drain cells on the growth and yield of mustard ( Brassica juncea L. ) in the roof gardening system. This research was conducted on Jl. Asempayung I No. 54 , Sukolilo, Surabaya, for 40 days. The experimental design used was a one-factor randomized block design with 4 treatments, first treatment using soil + husk charcoal, second treatment using soil + sawdust, third treatment using soil + fern, and fourth treatment using soil + cocopeat. The parameters observed included plant length (cm), number of leaves (strands), root length (cm), planting weight (grams), plot weight (grams) and early flowering time. Key words : Mustard plant, Drain Cell, Roof Garden
