Abstract

Garlic is a plant that is generally cultivated in Indonesia in the highlands. In the process of propagation, garlic plants often use vegetative cultivation techniques so that the genetic diversity of these plants is very narrow. It is necessary to have land extensification and improvement of local varieties in order to obtain new superior varieties of garlic that can be developed in lower plains. Improvement of garlic varieties can be done by various methods, one of which is the improvement of varietis through plant breeding. The research aims to determine the dose of 60Co gamma ray irradiation which can cause lethal dose 20 (LD20) and lethal dose 50 (LD50) and the effect of 60Co gamma rays on the level of genetic diversity in garlic (Allium sativum L.) Lumbu kuning varieties. The research was conducted in the farmer's land in Ketindan village, Lawang Malang. The time for conducting the research starts from November 2020 to February 2021. Consists of 6 levels of doses ranging from 0 (control), 2, 3, 4, 5, dan 6 Gy. Using 6 experimental plots and using the single plant method with level test analysis of 5% and 1%. The results showed a dose of 60Co gamma ray irradiation which can cause Lethal Dose 20 (LD20) is 4.27817 Gy and Lethal Dose 50 (LD50) is 11.6725 Gy in Lumbu Kuning variety of garlic. 60Co gamma irradiation affects the growth and production characters of garlic in each parameters of plant length, number of leaves, stem diameter, wet weight, dry weight, number of cloves and tuber diameter.
