Abstract

Limited space in urban areas becomes an obstacle in cultivating basil plants, abiotic components such as light cannot be fulfilled because the land is blocked by buildings. Vertical hydroponic indoor farming system is a solution for cultivating bacillus in urban areas. Indoor farms use artificial light from LED lamps as the main light source. This study aims to determine the light energy requirements (Photosynthetic Photon Flux Density) and the photoperiodicity of LED lamps suitable for bacilli plants. This study used a completely randomized trial design with a factorial pattern. The experiment consisted of 2 factors, namely, factor 1 Photosynthetic Photon Flux Density (PPFD) and factor 2 photoperiodicity / duration of exposure. Observation parameters included fresh stover weight, dry weight, chlorophyll content, leaf number, leaf area, plant height, leaf color and nutrient volume. The results showed that the 500 μmol/s/m2 PPFD treatment gave the best results for leaf chlorophyll content, leaf number, dry weight and total leaf area in basil plants. The 14 hour irradiation time is more efficient in the use of electrical energy than the 16 hour irradiation time. Keywords : PPFD, Photoperiodicity, bacillus, hydroponics
