Abstract

The increasing demand for healthy, safe and environmentally friendly agricultural products, encourages farmers to improve the quality and quantity of production. The application of plant protection technology using Biological Control Agents (BCA) is one of the solutions given. One of them is using entomopathogenic nematode symbionic bacteria. The purpose of this study was to determine the morphological, physiological and pathogenetic characteristics of several entomopathogenic symbiontic bacteria. Identification is done by looking at the morphological and physiological characteristics of the bacteria. The pathogenicity test on Crocidolomia pavonana larvae was carried out using 4 treatments placed in a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with each treatment repeated 6 times. The results showed that of the four symbionic bacterial isolates there were three bacterial isolates which showed morphological and physiological characteristics of the Xenorhabdus sp. Bacteria, while one bacterial isolate from the bacterium Bacillus sp.. The results of the pathogenicity test also revealed that in three days of observation, the four bacterial isolates had the same ability to kill the Crocidolomia pavonana larvae with the highest percentage of 100% and the lowest 88.9%. Thus the four isolates can be used as an alternative in controlling Crocidolomia pavonana larvae. Key words : characteristics, pathogenicity, symbionic bacteria, entomopathogenic nematodes.
