Abstract

Slaughterhouse’s wastewater treatment is more suitable to be done by biological treatment because it can reduce organic material in it. One of biological treatment can be used is Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor (MBBR) process. MBBR is a biological growth using suspended and attached growth which is mixed in basin reactor with continuous aeration. The working principle of MBBR is the use of media for microorganism growth. The aim of this study is to determine the efficiency BOD, TSS and NH3-N reduction by using MBBR in slaughterhouse’s wastewater. The media used in this study is Kaldness K3 with variation in media volume is in control, 15%, 30%, 45% and 60% of the waste volume. This study also used variation in aerator type. The aerator type are coarse aerator and fine aerator. The result of this research shows that the ability of the MBBR reactor with 60% of the waste volume and fine aerator of the aerator type at a sampling time of 12 hours is very efficient. The reactor can be reduce BOD until 93,97%; TSS until 86,09% and NH3-N until 87,52%. Keywords : MBBR, Slaughterhouse’s Wastewater, Kaldness K3
