Abstract

The photocatalyst process is a waste treatment process consisting of photochemical and catalysts that are semiconductor in nature. which in the process required UV light to increase the rate of reduction and oxidation reactions. The use of the right type of UV used in the photocatalyst process is UV-C. UV-C has the lowest wavelength in the range of 200-280 nm, the shorter the wavelength it has, the greater the photon energy emitted. UV-C has photon energy of 4.43 - 12.4 ev. The greater the photo energy absorbed by the semiconductor, it will produce hydroxyl radicals with large amounts. Research on the effectiveness of UV-C in reducing the burden of batik waste pollutants using the TiO2 photocatalyst process with variations in UV-C intensity of 442 lux, 884 lux, 1330 lux, 1760 lux, and 2210 lux. This study aims to obtain the effectiveness of UV-C in reducing the burden of batik waste pollutants. The photocatalyst process is carried out using a batch system and a continuous system. In the batch system used with variations of contact time 10.30, 60.90 and 120 minutes. In the continuous system 166.6 ml / minute is used with 120 minutes of discharge. The results of TDS removal in batik waste reached 49%, the change in color with a scale value of 9 to easy brown and an increase in pH to 7.5 and a temperature of 38 ° C within 120 minutes with an intensity of 2210 lux in a batch system. Whereas in the continuous system the TDS removal results reached 26%, the color change was still small which had a scale value of 11 and an increase in pH reached 7.4 and a temperature of 35 ° C in a 120-minute sampling time with an intensity of 2210 lux.
