Abstract
Nowadays, in order to do a matchmaking, people are not necessarily conducting a direct meeting first. Otherwise, it can be done via an application. One of the dating applications that is quite popular in Indonesia is Tantan. In its usage, the users will do self-disclosure to get to know more about match friends, whom they have never met before. However, because of fraud committed in dating applications currently, Tantan users are becoming more careful in doing self-disclosure. This makes researchers interested in knowing how the late teenage years users’ self-disclosure in Tantan dating application are, both from heterosexual and homosexual users. The theory used in this study is the social penetration theory by Altman & Taylor. This study is a descriptive study which applied a qualitative approach. Data collection is carried out by interview and interview with 8 purposeful informants. The 8 informants consisted of 7 heterosexual and 1 homosexual informants. The result show that self-disclosure of Tantan dating application users through 4 stages, selection and personal information exchange, self-assessment by expressing each other's daily life, the purpose of using Tantan, type of partner, exchanging opinions, until ended with meetup, comfort and trust by expressing each other personal problems, and relationship intimacy by continuing the relationship in a serious dating. Heterosexual users will introduce couples as boyfriend. to people around, while homosexuals will introduce couples as friends. It be done because homosexual user is still not open about their sexual orientation toward his surrondings. Keyword : Self Disclosure, Tantan, Social Penetration
