Abstract

Pulp and paper industry wastewater contains low degradability and is less efficient with biological treatment, so it requires further processing comparable as photocatalysts. The catalyst used is TiO2 which is synthesized with PVA into nanofiber. In this study, TiO2 nanofibers were used in the photocatalyst process to degrade lignin as the main parameter and TDS in pulp and paper industry wastewater. Treatment of the photocatalyst process using pH variations of 7 and 9 and UV-C irradiation time of 120 minutes where at 0, 30, 60, 90, and, 120 minutes sampling was carried out for parameter analysis. The initial analysis was required to obtain initial lignin levels of 71 mg/L and initial TDS levels of 1354 ppm. After the photocatalyst process, the optimum results for lignin degradation were obtained at pH 7 of 24.82 mg/L and TDS of 1161 ppm with a sampling time of 120 minutes and a dose of 2 gr TiO2. At pH 9, the optimum lignin degradation was 12.73 mg/L and TDS 1109 ppm with a sampling time of 120 minutes and a dose of 2 gr TiO2. From particular analyst, the optimum results were obtained at pH 9 with 82.07% lignin removal efficiency and 67.87% TDS.
