Abstract

Social media users in Indonesia have increased every year. Until January 2022, social media users in Indonesia reached 191.4 million and Twitter ranked 5th with 18.45 million users (Hootsuite, 2022). Recently, the word "roleplay" became a trending topic on Twitter related to the viral case of cyber crime involving a roleplay account. The rise of cases of cyber violence is a negative impact of the development of information and communication technology that is not matched by digital literacy skills. Therefore, every social media user requires good digital literacy skills. This research is a qualitative descriptive study that aims to determine the digital literacy of adolescents who play roleplay, especially in the city of Surabaya by interviews and documentation as data collection techniques. The results of the study show that informants have the ability to interact between roleplayers, manage identities in roleplay, manage privacy in cyberspace, and manage content in their respective roleplay accounts. While their motivation in playing roleplay is to relieve stress, have fun looking for entertainment, fill spare time, promote the characters they use, and find friends on the internet. However, even though they have digital literacy skills, they still commit ethical violations by using their idol's identity without permission and using harsh words on the timeline when interacting with their friends. The use of these harsh words can indirectly leave a bad image for the owner of the original identity. Keywords : Twitter, Teenagers, Roleplay, K-Pop, Digital Literacy.
