Abstract

The salam plant (Syzygium polyanthum (Wight) Walp.) belongs to the Myrtaceace family which grows from the lowlands to an altitude of 1,800 meters above sea level and spreads from Burma to Java Island. In Java it grows in West Java to East Java at an altitude of 5 meters to 1000 meters above sea level. In several areas in Indonesia, bay leaves are known as greetings in the areas of Java, Madura, Sunda: gowok (Sunda); kastolam (kangean, Sumenep); manting (Java), and meselengan (Sumatra). The name often used for bay leaves, including ubar lemongrass. Salam is a plant that is widely known by the public, and is usually widely used. The part of the bay plant that is often used is the leaf. The leaves are used as a kitchen spice or cooking spice because it has a distinctive aroma. In addition, bay leaves are often used by the community for alternative medicine because this plant is widely available in the community and easy to obtain. In Wonodadi District, Blitar, bay plants are often found in heterogeneous gardens and in the yards of local residents' houses. Salam plants grow together with other plants in a heterogeneous manner. Until now there has been no exploration of morphological information on laurel plants in the Wonodadi sub-district so that the population and diversity are not yet known. The purpose of this study was to determine the morphology of salam plants in Wonodadi District, Blitar. This research was conducted in 5 villages in Wonodadi District, Blitar Regency with a purposive random sampling approach. The five villages where this research was carried out were Kunir, Pikatan, Wonodadi, Tawangrejo, Jati. Salam plant samples were taken from the 5 villages. Each village was taken 3 points of bay trees for samples that grow in different heterogeneous gardens. Each dot in each village represents a laurel plant. Each bay plant is sampled from three parts. The three parts are the leaves on the top of the tree, the leaves in the middle of the tree, and the leaves on the bottom of the tree. The samples obtained were 9 samples from each village consisting of 3 leaves from the top, 3 middle leaves and 3 leaves from the bottom of the tree. The total sample is 45 samples of bay plant leaves. The parts of the leaf studied were the petiole, the leaf sheath and the leaf blade. Observational data on the morphology of Asak salam plants, Wonodadi Blitar District, were then compared with the book "High Plant Botany" by Neni Hasnunidah and Juli Wiono. These data were then analyzed for their morphological form in comparison with a comparison book and analyzed for their kinship with the NTsYs Ver. program. 2.02 and a distribution map is made according to the grouping data. This research resulted in an oval-shaped bay leaf and an oblongus-shaped bay leaf.
