Abstract

Instagram becomes one of the most popular social media platforms used as a learning medium to spread information through posters, photos or videos. Especially at this time, Instagram is the most popular social media and is widely used by people aged 18-24 years in which the majority of users are students. Therefore, some lecturers provide assignments that are uploaded to students' Instagram accounts because they are considered as an alternative to use technology in learning that is easy to use for students. Students are considered to have understood the features on Instagram. In addition, Instagram- based learning activities are said to be more participatory than traditional ones. Previous studies often discussed the perception of lecturers or teachers about the use of Instagram in learning activities. However, only a few discuss how students perceive the use of Instagram in learning activities. This study discusses how the perception of UPN "Veteran" Jawa Timur students about the use of Instagram in learning general subjects such as English, Citizenship,Religion, and Pancasila courses. In particular, this study will investigate the perception of students using Instagram to upload their assignments. The results obtained indicate that 52.6% of students feel that the use of Instagram as a medium for uploading assignments is less effective because uploading videos on Instagram takes a lot of time and there are some students who feel insecure because they have to show their assignments on social media. 47.4% feel that the use of Instagram as a learning medium has been effective because the features on Instagram are very helpful.
